Will he be able to live up to the expectations of his new team of police officers whilst dealing with the shadows of his own past life? The intriguing plot has many twists and turns leading to a tense climax. The story is laced with humour and exalts the spectacular scenery and cuisine of this central region of Italy.

About the Author
Benjamin Graham was the author of many influential investment books, including the classic Security Analysis, now in its sixth edition. The first proponent of the value school of investing and founder and former president of the Graham-Newman corporation investment fund, Graham taught at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business from 1927 through 1957.
Rodney G. Klein is a Wall Street historian and former student of Benjamin Graham at UCLA. He founded the Klein Stock Market Museum & Library in Massillon, Ohio.
David M. Darst, CFA, is a managing director of Morgan Stanley. He serves as Chairman of the Asset Allocation Committee and Chief Investment Strategist of the Global Wealth Management Group. Darst was the founding president of the Morgan Stanley Investment Group.

Good compilation of articles - provokes thoughts

Graham is the value investing ideology the Warren Buffet follows. Buffet worked for Graham for a couple of years. "If you buy shares in a company you are an owner so only buy shares of a company you want to own".

One problem with articles is they are topical at the time but the companies referenced are no longer in business in most cases. So no hot stock tips (and of course the basis of value investing is there is no such thing as a stock tip).

What is interesting is to see the methods he uses. Most of it is common sense. But then again, common sense is not that common.

He placed a high emphasis on the balance sheet and the numbers. Although he does not ignore the fundamentals of what the business does, he does not spend as much time as I do in trying to vision the future. The other factor that seemed weak was the attention to management and entrepreneurial creativity within the companies he analysed.

It was interesting to see that Graham owned majority control of Geico at one point and now Buffet owns it.

If you are going to be an investor, it seems to me following Grahams' ideology is a good idea. Think like an owner - not a speculator.

great........for the correct reader

If you were a joint econ/history major you will love this book. It is super to read about the stock markets our grandparents experienced. Excellent commentary by Klein and Darst. The Graham article on Goodyear's experience in 1920-21 I found particularly interesting. Shows how little has really changed. Obviously if you are looking for current investment ideas, this isnt the book for you.
By way of background: I have been in this business for 33 years.

About the Author
Aisha Raison has proven to be one of the strong, young Womanist poets, producers and speakers of our time. Creative and outspoken, her poetry will move you and create new food for thought for the mind, body and soul. Aisha has written and recorded poetry throughout the south since 1997, creating Afrodeesiack Press and working in radio in cities such as Winston-Salem and Memphis. With her feminist image and words, she has won and toured several southern poetry slams and readings and performs in coffee shops and college stages, retelling stories that influence and inspire those that have yet to have a voice. She has recently published a book of poetry (Speaking in Cursive and Other Adventures of Little Girl Blue, Afrodeesiack Press/Createspace IPP, 2012) and has done two short documentaries, one of which was based on her experience at Southern Fried Poetry Slam in 2013 (Southern Girl, Epifani 9 Productions, 2013). She is also a motivational speaker and domestic violence advocate who occasionally works with programs such as the YWCA of Greater Memphis as well as a midday on air personality at 88.5 WQOX-FM in Memphis.

"Heroine Tracks: Essays and Poetry from a Superwoman" by Aisha Raison

My Thoughts....

I will have to say after reading the first page of this author read, I simply couldn't put 'Heroine Tracks' down. I had to stop and ask this author if this was a true read and was told that it was...simply leaving me to say I think this one is going to be a very intriguing good read...and it was!
Ms.Aisha is telling her story and leaving no corners left unturned in her story. We are given a story of just how it was starting when she received her first dairy at the age of eight and her writing starts. There will be some pitfalls where she stops but will pick it back up around thirteen having learned from a horrible incident that it wasn't wise to put it in a diary Aisha 'started writing music lyrics and poetry' where she was able to 'express and tell truths' about herself. Now, Aisha was able 'to put her emotions on paper without someone calling her out on her silliness.' This was great now Aisha had discovered that she was indeed 'Superwoman.' All seemed well and good for Aisha but there will be many pitfalls for her as wants a good man in her life. Will she be able to find one that will love her? You will find that there are twelve chapters and ten poems included in this read. My favorite chapter was Chapter seven...'An Open Apology...By An Independent Black Woman.' I loved it! The poems were wonderful...all talking about what Aisha and what she had done through...but my favorite one was number eight...'And God Created Woman.' I don't want to tell too much other than say this is a very good read and only hope you will pick it up and see how well this author brings out this well written essays all out to the reader. In the end you will get Aisha complete story that I will say is a survivor and I am sure she will make it with or without ...... Thank you for your story and indeed you are a 'Superwoman!'

I want to thank this author for her gift of this read for my honest opinion I met at the BWABC Literacy Festival in Memphis, TN last September, 2015.

Like watching cement harden

I have read everybook that Ms Bradford has written and loved each of them. My first impression of this book was that she was told to write a book, fill it with as many people as she could, add graphic sex scenes and it would sell!

The names alone can drive you crazy, some times the hero is Edward and sometimes he is Ned. Every chapter adds 3-to 5 new people. Their are so many people on both sides of these families we needed a list in the front to keep track and then you add all the people working all over the world at this company!

I found my self at chapter 23 still trying to figure out who all these people are and going back to check their place in this story. Reading this is like watching cement harden. At this point, I do not care what happens to them.

I feel most sorry for Ms Bradford's husband Robert who she says has lived wih these characters for over 25 years!!!! I am sure he is relieved to turn them all over to us.

Try again, we fans will still be awaiting your usual wonderful novel

This is the first book of Barbara Taylor Bradford's that I have read, and if I were not the type of person who feels compelled to finish every series I start, it would be the last.

The story line is pulled straight out of history, Edward Deravenel's rise to power mirrors that of King Edward V down to family crests, character names, and every relationship in the book. At times, Mr. Bradford seems so focused on mirroring history that she doesn't give a care to what her readers may want. Instead of an intricate and enjoyable family saga in which the reader feels he/she is a part of the family, we are subjected to many many stilted conversations between family members and important company directors.

Some character seem to serve no other purpose but to fulfill their place in the history books. Few characters go beyond the superficial to take on likable traits. Of course, with a cast of characters so large there is hardly time to delve into their personalities.

With the opening of a chapter, we discover that years have passed and main characters have been killed off, marraiges made, children born, and children died. We discover monumental secrets that change the course of the book in a casual sentence dropped in conversation. Secrets that were alluded to hundreds of pages before in only a meager paragraph. Secrets such as "I'm already married. I eloped years ago." or "I am the father of your adoptive daughter."

Unfortunately, for us, all of the juicy stuff is skipped over and the boring financial problems of the company are discussed in detail. My complaints with this book continue, but are too many to list. I can only assume from Ms. Bradford's popularity that the rest of her books are much better than this one. Here's to hoping the next is better!

A family dynasty series yes...but don't look for it to be as well written as the Harte family series.
By Just looking for a good story
First, I am a huge fan of Ms Bradford's Harte Family series. Those characters are well thought out and developed, the scenes are set, and new characters are introduced slowly enough and with enough development that you care about them and their interaction with each other.

All that being said, this current book reads like an attempt to build on the same formula for the Harte series but much more condensed. The book throws in new characters at an alarming pace without their development. It is almost as if the author was stuck at a point (and there seem to be many) and said 'hmm how do I get out of this? I will introduce Bob and Bob will all of the sudden fix the issue.'

This is the first book in this series and the second is due this year as well. I just hope that the next one will be more thought out otherwise I guess I will just go back and reread the Harte series again.
