Italoamericana: The Literature of the Great Migration, 1880-1943From Fordham University Press

The highly-anticipated first English-language edition of the monumental critical anthology of writings from the golden age of the Italian disapora in America is now available.

To appreciate the life of the Italian immigrant enclave from the great heart of the Italian migration to its settlement in America requires that one come to know how these immigrants saw their communities as colonies of the mother country. Edited with extraordinary skill, Italoamericana: The Literature of the Great Migration, 1880-1943 brings to an English-speaking audience a definitive collection of classic writings on, about, and from the formative years of the Italian-American experience.

Originally published in Italian, this landmark collection of translated writings establishes a rich, diverse, and mature sense of Italian-American life by allowing readers to see American society through the eyes of Italian-speaking immigrants. Filled with the voices from the first generation of Italian-American life, the book presents a unique treasury of long-inaccessible writing that embodies a literary canon for Italian-American culture--poetry, drama, journalism, political advocacy, history, memoir, biography, and story--the greater part of which has never before been translated.

Italoamericana introduces a new generation of readers to the "Black Hand" and the organized crime of the 1920s, the incredible "pulp" novels by Bernardino Ciambelli, Paolo Pallavicini, Italo Stanco, Corrado Altavilla, the exhilarating "macchiette" by Eduardo Migliaccio (Farfariello) and Tony Ferrazzano, the comedies by Giovanni De Rosalia, Riccardo Cordiferro's dramas and poems, the poetry of Fanny Vanzi-Mussini and Eduardo Migliaccio.

Edited by a leading journalist and scholar, Italoamericana introduces an important but little-known, largely inaccessible Italian-language literary heritage that defined the Italian-American experience. Organized into five sections--"Annals of the Great Exodus," "Colonial Chronicles," "On Stage (and Off-Stage)," "Anarchists, Socialist, Fascists, Anti-Fascists," and "Apocalyptic Integrated / Integrated Apocalyptic Intellectuals"--the volume distinguishes a literary, cultural, and intellectual history that engages the reader in all sorts of archaeological and genealogical work.

Review

"Robert Viscusi's American edition of Francesco Durante's anthology fills an enormous gap in Italian and Italian American studies. This is the first English-language edition of a collection of journalistic, literary and critical texts to offer deep and sweeping insight into the social lives and psychology of Italian immigrants up to the watershed years of World War II."-George Guida, New York City College of Technology, The City University of New York and President of the Italian American Studies Association

"Italoamericana is a supreme work of scholarship-an archive unto itself in the form of a meticulously researched and scrupulously glossed and documented historical anthology of the literary creation of the Italian migration."-Pellegrino D'Acierno, Hofstra University

"A sophisticated, critical look at the writings of Italian immigrants to America across all genres. . . This volume is a major work and forms an invaluable testament to a forgotten era of Italian literary history in the new world. . . A massive work of extraordinary power, that while scholarly and comprehensive, will have wide appeal."--Publishers Weekly, Starred Review

" . . . [A] kaleidoscopic, thousand-page anthology of memoirs, poetry, political commentary and newspaper excerpts . . ."--Sam Roberts, The New York Times

"This volume is a comprehensive compilation of writings by Italian American authors. First published in Italy, edited by journalist and literary scholar Durante, the anthology covers the mass migration of Italians to the United States up to World War II. . . VERDICT Highly recommended for anyone interested in immigrant literature and an essential purchase for any collection of Italian American literature and culture."--Morris Hounion, New York City College of Technology, Brooklyn, Library Journal

"This massive anthology rings out with the voices of legions of Italians and Italian Americans over six decades. From it flows their poetry, drama, stories, memories, novels, speeches, oral histories and more."--Doce Italiana

"In its girth, the volume is a metaphorical feast, suggesting both the collective heft of the rediscovered output and the unique works still waiting to be discovered. . . highly recommended." -Choice

"It is not an exaggeration to characterize this work as monumental, not only for the large number of original sources it includes in its nearly one thousand pages but also for its variety and organization." -Italian American Review

"Italoamericana spotlights, through a broad variety of literary work, the distinct culture and history of Italian Americans, while showing the universality of the immigrant story. It should find a place in every Italian American household, as a touchstone to a reality few of us know anything about."-Feile-Festa

Italoamericana Vol. II - Finally in English: the Italian migration in the words of those who lived it. - a great read
By Richard Mattiaccio
This English rendition of Volume II of Francesco Durante's extraordinary anthology of the writings of the Italians in America from the 1880's to World War II is a revelation to anyone interested in the language, intellectual life, literature, performance culture and social perspectives of the people of the "Italian colony" during its sudden expansion. The book also happens to be fun to read: sometimes tragic, sometimes comic, sometimes ironic, never dull. The size of the volume might be a little off-putting to the casual reader, but it can and should be read in discrete, relatively brief sittings, author by author. Durante's introduction of each author places the writings in context and brings them and the Italian colony to life. Shouts of "Bravi" are due for the publisher, the editors and translators who have made available in modern yet faithful English the idiosyncratic Italian of the original texts. Italoamericana Volume II stands out as an important contribution to a more nuanced understanding of the Italian immigrant experience in the United States. It might well also provide insights into immigration in more general terms. Anyone who starts reading this book will wonder when we can have a translation of Volume I, the writings of Italians in America from the beginnings of the United States until the period covered by this volume. Ben venga!

A great source for the curious but definitely "dry" unless you ...
By Ms Marilyn L. Shaw Esq.
If you are of Italian descent, this book will answer/explain a whole lot of questions and mysteries you may have grown up with, such as, why we knew so little about our heritage, were not taught the language, what experiences our ancestors were silent about, etc. The book is quite a find as it was written in Italian by Italian authors who read many original sources, including newspapers written in the States addressed to the immigrant community. A great source for the curious but definitely "dry" unless you are interested in understanding the Italian immigrant experience which our ancestors never talked about.

A Man Called Ove: A Novel, by Fredrik Backman

Read the New York Times bestseller that has taken the world by storm!

Meet Ove. He’s a curmudgeon—the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him “the bitter neighbor from hell.” But must Ove be bitter just because he doesn’t walk around with a smile plastered to his face all the time?

Behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness. So when one November morning a chatty young couple with two chatty young daughters move in next door and accidentally flatten Ove’s mailbox, it is the lead-in to a comical and heartwarming tale of unkempt cats, unexpected friendship, and the ancient art of backing up a U-Haul. All of which will change one cranky old man and a local residents’ association to their very foundations.

A feel-good story in the spirit of The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry and Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand, Fredrik Backman’s novel about the angry old man next door is a thoughtful exploration of the profound impact one life has on countless others. “If there was an award for ‘Most Charming Book of the Year,’ this first novel by a Swedish blogger-turned-overnight-sensation would win hands down” (Booklist, starred review).

From Booklist
*Starred Review* At 59, Ove is a grumble Gus of the first degree. Rules are made to be followed, signs are meant to be obeyed, and don’t even get him started about computers and mobile phones. In truth, Ove has been this way his whole life, but he’s gotten worse in the last four years since his wife, Sonia, died, taking with her all the color in a world Ove sees as black-and-white. Ove has decided life without Sonia is not worth living and plans to join her in the next world. But a young couple and their two children (a third is on the way) move in next door, his oldest friend and most feared enemy is about to be forcibly removed to a nursing home, and a street-scarred cat insinuates itself into his life. Suddenly, Ove’s suicide plans get delayed as he helps solve neighborly crises large and small. Though Ove’s dark mission mitigates any treacly upstaging by animals and small children, readers seeking feel-good tales with a message will rave about the rantings of this solitary old man with a singular outlook. If there was an award for Most Charming Book of the Year, this first novel by a Swedish blogger-turned-overnight-sensation would win hands down. --Carol Haggas

“A charming debut…You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll feel new sympathy for the curmudgeons in your life. You’ll also want to move to Scandinavia, where everything’s cuter.” (People)

“Even the most serious reader of fiction needs light relief, and for that afternoon when all you want is charm, this is the perfect book." (San Francisco Chronicle)

“You will laugh, you will cry, as his heartbreaking story unfolds through the diverse cast of characters that enter his life, all uninvited. You will never look at the grumpy people who come into your life in quite the same way. A very memorable read."
(San Diego Union Tribune, Best Books of 2015)

"An inspiring affirmation of love for life and acceptance of people for their essence and individual quirks. A Man Called Ove is a perfect selection for book clubs. It's well written and replete with universal concerns. It lacks violence and profanity, is life-affirming and relationship-driven. The book is bittersweet, tender, often wickedly humorous and almost certain to elicit tears. I contentedly wept my way through a box of tissues when I first read the novel and again when I savored it for a second time.” (BookBrowse.com)

"A light hearted, deeply moving novel about a grumpy but loveable curmudgeon who finds his solitary world turned on its head when a boisterous young family moves in next door. This quirky debut is a thoughtful and charming exploration of the impact one life has on countless others—and an absolute delight." (CBS Local)

"A Man Called Ove is exquisite. The lyrical language is the confetti thrown liberally throughout this celebration-of-life story, adding sparkle and color to an already spectacular party. Backman's characters feel so authentic that readers will likely find analogues living in their own neighborhoods." (Shelf Awareness (starred review))

"Readers seeking feel-good tales with a message will rave about the rantings of this solitary old man with a singular outlook. If there was an award for 'Most Charming Book of the Year,' this first novel by a Swedish blogger-turned-overnight-sensation would win hands down." (Booklist, Starred Review)

“A funny crowd-pleaser that serves up laughs to accompany a thoughtful reflection on loss and love… The author writes with winning charm.” (Publishers Weekly, starred review)

“This charming debut novel by Backman should find a ready audience with English-language readers… hysterically funny… wry descriptions, excellent pacing… In the contest of Most Winning Combination, it would be hard to beat grumpy Ove and his hidden, generous heart.” (Kirkus Reviews)

“Poignant and unpredictable, Backman’s book is filled with many twists and turns, as well as enjoyable characters and humorous situations." (Columbia Tribune (Missouri))

"There are characters who amuse us, and stories that touch us. But this character and his story do even more: A Man Called Ove makes us think about who we are and how we want to live our lives. A Man Called Ove seems deceptively simple at the start, yet Frederik Backman packs a lifetime's worth of hilarity and heartbreak into this novel. Even the most crusty curmudgeon will love Ove!" (Lois Leveen, author of Juliet's Nurse and The Secrets of Mary Bowser )

“One of the most moving novels I have read this year. I defy anyone to read this book and look at a quiet withdrawn person the same way ever again.” (Cayacosta Reviews)

"One of those books you read and then want everyone else to read, too. It is also one of those books where you don’t dare go into detail about the main character, the setting, or the plot because that would ruin the experience for others. Suffice it to say that the man whose name is Ove is a curmudgeon. He’s grumpy. He’s cantankerous. And he is a delight! Long may he harrumph!” (Rene Kirkpatrick, Eagle Harbor Book Company, Bainbridge Island, WA )

"Hooray! A Man Called Ove is coming to America! This first novel written by a Swedish blogger is a charming story. You will come to love this cranky old man whose world is black and white. He is a rule follower who has no patience with people who are not. His tale unfolds when a new family moves into his neighborhood and accidentally flatten his mailbox. Unlikely friendships are formed that produce laughter and tears. At the end of the book you will want to share it with others." (Elizabeth Merritt, Titcomb's Bookshop, East Sandwich, MA )

Review
Delightful ... the perfect holiday read. Evening Standard A warm and tender story about love, loss and second chances, peppered with memorable characters, wonderful set pieces and some beautifully black humour. Ove is a joy from start to finish. Gavin Extence, author of The Universe versus Alex Woods It's warm, funny, and ultimately almost unbearably moving. Daily Mail An uplifting, life-affirming and often comic tale of how kindness, love and happiness can be found in the most unlikely places. Sunday Express A charming debut. People

What a blessing
By Barbara P. Phillips
My sister and I listened to this book from Audible and I am now reading his other book. Such a sweet, well written story of despair and hope.Having just lost a husband less than a year ago, I can certainly relate to his sorrow and feelings of worthlessness - being old and useless. What a blessing this book as been to me.

An amazing feel-good story
By Suncoast
This is a gem of a feel-good debut novel about A MAN CALLED OVE by Swedish author and blogger Fredrik Backman. It will make you laugh and make you cry and you will remember Ove for a long time.

Some would call Ove a curmudgeon, a lovely word meaning a bad-tempered, difficult, cantankerous person. His wife called him the most inflexible man in the world - he borders on being obsessive compulsive but is generally a grumpy man who doesn't tolerate fools and likes things to be done that way he wants them. While many think that he is just a rude and grumpy man, at heart you will find out that he is one of the kindest persons you will ever know.

Ove is a 59 years old widower who has just been arbitrarily retired after 30 years in the same job. His world now revolves around his home and neighbourhood housing complex where he rules the roost making sure that all local rules and regulations are followed. He is very lonely since his wife died, he quarrelled with his best friend and neighbour years ago and rarely has contact with his neighbours.

Ove's world is one of anger and sadness. One day a new neighbour accidentally flattens Ove's mailbox driving in an area where vehicles are prohibited. This starts a very amusing, heartwarming and frequently very sad story as Ove's rigidly structured world is disrupted by unexpected friendship from Parvaneh, a vivacious small and very pregnant Iranian woman who has moved in next door with her Swedish husband Patrick and two girls. Parvaneh is perhaps the only person who can take on Ove directly and win, and starts to change his life for the better.

We also go back to how Ove met his vivacious and loving wife Sonja who was the direct opposite of Ove. At a critical time in her life she said to him "We can busy ourselves with living or dying, Ove. We have to move on." Now a widower Ove is struggling to move on.

This is one of the best feel-good stories I have read for some time and it gets a place in my best books for 2014. I strongly recommend it to someone who wants to read something different that will hit at your heart. If you are emotionally affected by books I strongly suggest keeping a box of tissues handy.

My thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for a copy of this book for review.

I absolutely loved this book
By Jo Kline Cebuhar
This was one of those accidental finds--meandering through book choices and came across it. I absolutely loved this book. It is funny, tender, thoughtful and thought-provoking. The character of Ove seemed a bit too curmudgeony at first, but as his story unfolded, it all fit. A touching perspective on loss and what it means to choose life and figure out one's new role as a loner. It also celebrates the importance of coincidence and embracing what life brings.

This book speaks about Bastable’s family. When their father's business fails, the six Bastable children decide to restore the family fortunes. But although they think of many ingenious ways to do so, their well meant efforts are either more fun than profitable, or lead to trouble.

About the Author
Edith Nesbit (1858 – 1924), was a mischievous, tomboyish child who grew up to be an unconventional adult. She and her husband were founder members of the socialist Fabian Society and their home became a centre for socialist and literary discussion. Their friends included some of the time’s greatest writers and thinkers, including George Bernard Shaw and H. G. Wells. Everything about Edith showed her as a woman trying to break out of the mould demanded by English society at the time – she expressed her individuality through her clothes, hairstyle, lifestyle and her habit of speaking forcefully on almost any subject. She lived her socialism and late in life her charitable deeds brought her close to bankrupcy. E. Nesbit – she always used the plain initial for her writing and was sometimes thought to be a man – started to write for children after years of successful writing for adult magazines. She was asked to write about her childhood but instead of facts chose to describe her happy girlhood in fiction. The result was books still read today, firm bestsellers for decades. She was brilliant at combining real-life situations with elements of fantasy and humour. Films –such as The Railway Children - have kept her stories in the public eye and her magical fantasies, including Five Children and It, continue to delight each new generation of children.

E. Nesbit did not write for children.
By Tracet
Oh, yes, I quite enjoyed Five Children and It and The Phoenix and the Carpet and so on when I was a child; they're magnificent children's books. But listening to the Librivox recording of The Story of the Treasure-Seekers makes it very, very clear that the magnificent Ms. Nesbit had very firmly in mind the parents who would be reading the books aloud at bedtime. One beautiful example is a scene in which an adult abruptly rises from his seat and walks away to stand at the window with his back to the children in his office. The narrator says he believes the man was trying to conceal his emotions. Which is very true; the emotions, however, were not what the narrator thought. But the narrator, and any child reading or listening who has utter faith that all is just as the narrator perceives it, may believe one thing; the beautiful layer of comedy in the moment is reserved for the grown-ups.

Thank goodness we get something; in almost everything else the children are the fortunate ones.

The Bastable children possess an innocence which I'm very much afraid is impossible for even a twelve-year-old today. I've seen comments out there amongst the reviews about "imperialist overtones" and casual racism. Thing is, though, this was first published in 1899, and like it or not the world was a very different place then, and as I read it even what could be considered racist has an innocence that keeps it from being offensive. The children are given to understand that a visitor is an Indian, and - fed on adventure novels - assume Amerind, and ask him about beavers. He's India Indian, though, and has no information on such creatures. I honestly don't see how the children's honest excitement about and sympathy for someone from far away who describes himself as a poor broken-down fellow (which they also take literally) can be translated as racist, especially in 1899, and the one extremely unfortunate exclamation that can be (the same as is found in L.M. Montgomery's A Tangled Web) was, sadly, a much more common epithet a hundred years ago.

These are the sort of fictional children that make me despair over today's kids: imaginative, well-read, well-spoken, thoughtful under the childish self-centeredness, and self-sufficient; they make today's kids (American, at least) look like Neanderthals. They're not perfect little angels - E. Nesbit was never stupid. But they do set a ludicrously high standard.

Dora, the eldest (at 13 or 14?), comes off as a bit of a prig (though this is dealt with in a later chapter in such a way that it made me cry), desperately trying to maintain some moral high ground in a horde of siblings who think it would be absolutely smashing if there were still highwaymen on the heath - or, even better, if they could be highwaymen on the heath. Her objection is that it's "wrong" - as in illegal and people hang for such things, not so much as in the victims of the highwaymen didn't think it was quite so smashing. The again-innocent bloodthirstiness of the kids is remarkable, and just fun.

Oswald, the oldest boy at 12 and (you might guess, or you might not!) the narrator of the story, is very nearly as brave and honourable as he wants to appear, and very straightforward. It's rather lovely to see him reluctantly, realistically doing the right thing throughout the book, proceeding quietly and alone when practical - the older ones all do that, shouldering responsibility and striving to make things right when they go wrong. The fierce affection and loyalty among the siblings is, like their father's poverty and worries, never explicitly stated: it doesn't have to be. It is shown, not told.

The four younger children - Noel and Alice and H.O. and Dickie, ranging down to I believe six years old - are every one expected by their elder siblings to be just as sharp and responsible and willing and able to contribute as Oswald and Dora. Some allowances are made for their extreme youth, but for the most part they are equal partners in the treasure-seeking, receiving an equal share in any profits - though sometimes excused by protective siblings from punishments.

I don't remember E. Nesbit reducing me to tears in the past. This did. And, yes, I laughed out loud. I missed the magic element of some of the other books - but only at first. It didn't take long to realize that most of the magic of E. Nesbit's writing is actually in E. Nesbit's writing.

To that point: "No book is really worth reading at the age of ten which is not equally - and often far more - worth reading at the age of fifty and beyond." ~ C.S. Lewis. I look forward to reading E. Nesbit when I'm fifty, and beyond.

The Bravest of People
By S. Grotzke
Point: A true view of a person can be seen when he acts upon what he believes to be true, not necessarily what has been "proved" to be true.

Path: The Bastable children, 6 in total, are in search of restoring the lost fortunes of the good Bastable family name. Their mother died several years earlier, and the business of their father is not good. They each concoct a way in which they believe that they will be able to restore the lost fortunes. Chapter by chapter they each try their ways at encountering treasure. Their full imaginations carry the reader through a world in their minds which is perhaps much more real than the world which I have chosen to see.

Sources: An imagination alive with the fire of youth.

Agreement: The imagination is not a hindrance, or a childish bane. It is the lens through which we see our world, the interpretive grid by which we understand what is beyond.

Personal App: Some of the bravest people in this world are under the age of 10. Those who act nobly upon what they believe, not necessarily what has been proved to be true, are those with real courage. Anyone can walk to the bathroom at night because they have convinced themselves that no one is in the house. But the child who walks stiffly down the hallway when he is convinced that there is a robber in the house, he is the braver.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I would have liked to see the ending changed to be more of a recognition of the true fortunes they possessed in their imagination and family. I laughed at parts, nearly cried at others.

Nesbit's Funniest and Most Accessible Book
By Pop Bop
So, here it is - a Kindle freebie with loads of positive reviews, but it's from 1899 and you suspect the positive reviews may just be filtered through the gauzy haze of happy childhood reading memories. Is it worth a try? I suggest the answer is "Yes".

Edith Nesbit was not a Victorian novelist with either a tendency toward vapors or an intimidating moralistic streak. She was most certainly a pip - opinionated, idiosyncratic, courageous, and undeterred by lack of precedent. She basically pioneered the writing of children's books that featured realistic children, honest humor, and respect for young readers. She avoided morals in favor of plain common sense, and she understood that siblings could love and support each other even while bickering. There is nothing stodgy about her books except for stodgy things and people she makes a bit of fun of.

Many of her more famous books are fantasies or have an element of "Boy's Own" adventure, but this book could readily be put forth as her funniest. There is broad humor, witty commentary, irony, and dry as dust understatement that readers of many different ages and abilities will pick up on to a greater or lesser degree. While you might expect it, the writing is not terribly formal or complex, just a bit more structured. It would be easy enough even for a younger reader to get into the flow of Nesbit's elegant and engaging, but light and very reader-friendly writing style.

The Bastable kids are good, funny, bright kids. They are also brave and honorable. They have the kid equivalent of style. Even if they do mess up a bit it's usually because they tried to do too much rather than too little. Their conversations, both among themselves and with adults, are as fresh and vivid as though they took place yesterday and any of the Bastables could slip right now into a middle grade school daze novel and fit right in - that's how good Nesbit was.

So, well worth a toss and likely to be a winner.

Please note that I found this book while browsing Amazon Kindle freebies. I have no connection at all to the publisher of this book.

Review
An excellent book, solid in every way. I used the first edition this year and it was exactly what I needed for this course. No other book holds a candle to byrnes' book. (Charles Williams, U of Toledo)

The organization of each chapter presents a concise way of assisting students in understanding the material and knowing how to apply it in future situations.

This book is an excellent overview of the field of arts management. It is clearly written and comprehensive. The case studies are really useful.

"Appreciate the specificity of the examples."

Important basics for all arts managers
By Dirk Heinze
William Byrnes' book is obviously one of only a few books touching all aspects of arts management today. Readers will learn how arts organizations and arts management evolved, the theories and processes behind strategic planning and decision-making, and how to integrate various management theories with practical applications to this type of organization. Of course, not all of Byrnes' examples lets copy into other cultural markets, but there are a lot of general basics for arts managers and administrators worldwide. We can really advise to buy this publication.

A good book to get a general survey of issues in the arts management field. As an overview, it necessarily glosses over details in areas such as the history of arts management, economics/accounting, daily operation strategies. Great for presenting theory-great for examples of how other arts organizations have implemented theory. Slightly geared towards performing arts organizations but quite useful to all arts managers.

This is a solid translation. It contains the two critical dialogues of Rousseau's early career, as well as other minor works that reveal more corner of Rousseau's ever-interesting imagination. Furthermore, the work is supplemented by a great introduction, both on the themes of the work and on its terminology. Indeed, the volume contains a sort of glossary before the translations, speaking to each of the most important words within these works. One complaint: I don't like the physical, material aspect of this translation (or Cambridge in general). These sharp blue books have a tough and unyielding 'soft'cover, which really makes holding the book open difficult.

Love reading Rousseau
By RKM
Love reading Rousseau. Without making this an analysis of his works I will just state that anyone who wants to understand where some of the roots of our liberties and freedoms come from MUST read this.

Great translation of Rousseau!
By R MORGAN
This is the best translation of Rousseau that I have ever read. The translation for this series genuinely reflects Rousseau's humor and sarcasm, making the political philosophy a joy to read. Highly recommend this series!

Much better work exists - for the investment.
By dw
I didn't do a very good job checking out this book before purchasing.
I usually do a more thorough review of an author's background.
Brother George lays out some of the rudimentary facts concerning the pagan and occult elements which over many years have been added to the recipe of Catholicism.

However, chapter 2 is a classic discourse teaching of Calvinism.
And if you know anything about this, you know that to ask a devout Calvinist to critique Catholicism is like asking a daughter to critique her mother.
A critique severely limited to say the least, as they both share the same taproot (Augustine) who you must already know is considered one of the premier examples of mixing neo-Platonism into Christianity, and here is where Plato's doctrine of full DDI came in as well.

The Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy (Augustine)
- .iep.utm.edu/a/augustin
and
Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy
- plato.stanford.edu/entries/immutability/

If your really interesting in looking under the hood of Catholicism get a copy of Dr. Walter J. Veith's "Wine of Babylon" and "Gathering the children". His work is at the professional level of research. You will not be disappointed!

Another awesome research work is
Pagan Christianity (Exploring the Roots of Our Church Practices)

Written by Frank Viola and George Barna.
This is not so much the detailed minutia of the pagan and occult principles and their roots, but more about where and how they are still residual in most of Christianity today.

outpouring of the Spirit for the building up of the body of Christ
By Stewart Molina
This author is one of several who were talented with the ability to put deep consideration of the Lord's economy into words. This book is outstanding, and I most highly recommend it for all Christians, but especially to those who are seeking to understand all the dimensions of Christ's greatest prophecy.

bad printing
By it
I have the hard back version. The printing quality is clear. The problem is that they have the text biased towards the spine so that the outer margin is 1.75 inches and the margin at the spine edge is 0.5 inches. This makes the type dip into the gully between the left and right page.

A very surprising classic
By Roger Bagula
I got this very beat up and used: I had to rescue the binding.

In my later edition there were cases of statics and dynamics

that I hadn't seen anywhere else with full mathematical derivations!

I was totally surprised when I found one of the best explanations of Weyl's gauge theory

complete with a version of Maxwell's equation that can be understood better than most tensor

and vector expressions of the same equations as a matter of scaling.

James Jeans deserves the admiration of all for such a work as this.

Carpe Diem Journal Review
By Katie Euliss
First of all, I couldn't think of a better title for this review. Anyways, I love the saying "carpe diem." Always have, always will. I also love Mary Kate McDevitt's work. So it only makes sense that I'd want this journal. It's not too big and not too small. But I did look at the covers, and it almost looks like there are little spots where the journal is perhaps discolored? I'm not sure. And then on the back cover one of the corners is a little bit messed up. So if you're really weird about that kind of stuff (and it's okay to be really weird about that stuff!), you might want to be prepared for a potential return? Regardless, I like the journal. Like I said, I love Mary Kate McDevitt's stuff. I wrote in this journal yesterday, actually. The product was delivered on time, too (just in case anyone wanted to know). All in all, I am satisfied with this journal (especially the artwork/pages). (:

ADORE - bought 2!!
By shopgirl76
Confession: I'm a huge fan of typography, smash journals etc and Mary Kate McDevitt, so this was kind of a no-brainer for me. I actually bought one at Target first that I saw by coincidence and then looked it up when I was shopping for other items here - and couldn't resist buying a 2nd one.

This is the perfect, pocket-sized journal for the thinker and doer - or the thinker who wants to be a doer! The colors and graphics are beautiful, enticing and the prompts motivate not just action but writing/journaling and self-reflection. There's enough space to write, doodle, possibly even add a sticky note or piece of ephemera as desired.

Hope to see many more versions and styles of this kind!!
