Really not useful

This book is a confusing waste of money. For starters, my own mistake was thinking that it was 3.0 3.5, it is 2.0. Second, this book is "DIABLO II" but it is actually just characters from DIABLO II and the STORY line of DIABLO I, which is crappy considering they stole the monsters from DIABLO II also. This book is also ridden with typos and innacuracies. Please save yourself time and money and buy a different book.

A great resource and lots of retro fun

There's two ways to use this product, both of which I heartily recommend, although "The Awakening" doesn't succeed equally at both.
As a sourcebook, it's terrific: There's five new AD&D kits (Amazon, Barbarian, Paladin, Necromancer and Sorcerer) that can be used to flesh out the standard AD&D characters of the same names (lifting new skills and spells for necromancer specialist mages, for instance) or to replace standard character types with these more colorful archetypes.
There are dozens of new spells, many of them quite good (the "corpse exploder" is a hoot), 100 or so new monsters (in true Diablo-style, though, they're actually variants on 20 or so base new monster types) and, of course, over a million new magic items, using the Diablo system of variable enchantment types piled atop one another (a system so interesting, it's how magic items are going to work in the upcoming 3rd edition of Dungeons and Dragons).
This is how I'm using the book. I'll be dropping Scavengers and Acid Spitters and Fallen Ones into my dungeons. Maybe my players will recognize them, maybe they won't. An upcoming necromancer archvillain will also have spells the players have never encountered before, drawing on this book, the wonderful-but-impossible-to-find Complete Necromancer's Handbook and the skills in this book. Great stuff all around.
The other way to use the book, though, isn't as successful: The dungeon crawl is fun - and HUGE - but the editing mistakes that were mildly annoying in earlier parts of the book (at least one monster's hit dice is clearly a major typo) become a real problem here, with items listed on the maps that don't show up in the description and vice versa. (The two chest sizes allegedly indicated on the map are actually both shown with an identical image, for instance.) And while Tristram is described - with spoilers, for those who haven't played the original computer game - there's no map, which seems an odd omission.
Having said that, though, this measures up quite well against the classic "Temple of Elemental Evil" module from AD&D's heyday, and I'll likely be using this as a straight forward dungeon crawl on those occasions when my full gaming group can't all get together. But even if you just use the source material that make up the first ¾ of the book, "Diablo II: The Awakening" is a great value and a terrific campaign resource for any DM.

Excellent book and great source material but...

This book contains a multitude of usefull features. It has five kits based off the Diablo 2 classes, Barbarian, Paladin, Necromancer, Sorcereress and amazon. You might be thinking that some of those already are classes/ kits, well these are diffrent, speciffically designed for Diablo. There is a great deal of good art work, and there are over 100's monsters from the diablo world. (caveat: there are 100's monsters, but in actuallity the monsters are grouped together according to type, for example three or four types of skeletons share a page with info on all, like in the Monstrous Manual). You also get stats for old timers like Griswald and Farnham and the other townspeople from the first diablo.
The scorce material is top notch. It fully conforms and follows the story from the origonal Diablo. It has nothing to do with Diablo 2, other than the 5 kits I described above. But I perfer it this way as I don't want the story spoiled.
Overall, this is a great book. However if your AD&D players have played the first diablo, you should not use anything directly out of the book (But what good DM does:) There are a nifty magic item generation charts to get diablo style magic items. All in all I would suggest getting this book. But, do not accidently pick up the other Diablo 2 set. That is for Basic D&D and is intended to be an intoduction to the game. Likewise if you are new to Dungeons and Dragons you should pick up the D&D Diablo 2 intro set. It comes with dice and all the other stuff you need to play.

A Little Beyond Amazing!

I’m a huge fan of Tracie Puckett’s Just a Little series, so I was over the moon when I heard she was starting the A Little Beyond series. I’ve waited very patiently for this story and I’m happy to say it was well worth the wait!

Julie and Luke are back and stronger than ever. Julie is still finding her way in the world, but wedding plans are in motion. Luke is looking to the future, but with his hand firmly in Julie’s. Their relationship always makes me smile. The don’t have all the answers, but they love unselfishly.

The B-story involving Julie’s cousin Matt was a major part of the story. We find him lost and seemingly hopeless at the beginning of this book, but the reasons are hidden. First of all, Julie shows so much more restraint in giving Matt space than I could possibly manage, just sayin’. I admire that. Second of all, I appreciated Miss Puckett’s decision to keep the details secret for much of the story. It allows us as the reader to really look at the effects of the secret on the individuals without inserting our personal biases based on the facts. It gives us important insight into all the ways we are emotionally affected by events in our lives and how we cope in both constructive and destructive ways. I think this is an important message for readers of all ages.

But mostly I just love Julie and Luke. They are such interesting characters and I always love to see what exciting situations Miss Puckett puts them in. She has a way of making me love and care about every character, even the smallest. The emotions are always so real and the characters very relatable.

A Little Beyond Hope is the perfect new installment in the Just A Little world. It is a must read!

Get the kleenex....

Will try not to post any spoilers....

Just finished reading and my heart is literally hurting. I absolutely love this series and it hurt with that devastating loss as if it was my family member... Tracie has an amazing way of sucking you in to the story as if you're there living each and every moment. What I love most is seeing the devotion between Julie and Luke watching as they grow closer and more in love. I think the only thing that I'm upset about is not being able to right click and continue observing their lives! Thank you Tracie for such an amazing read!

I chose this rating because I expected more but in some way I didn't I knew there was going to be some kind of hard thing to get through and overall I'm disappointed because I now know in the other books it's all going to be about trying to get over this and now good times and there probably going to be very little romance with Luke and Julie over this book was depressing but I know tracie puckett and I believe she will do great this later on thieves books I just need a little hope

Only partly successful in illuminating a tough subject.

Reading this book I got the feeling that Mr. Smith couldn't quite decide if his audience was the layman or the surveying professional. For example, very little mathematics is used (even though there are topics in the book which would have been better served by a more mathematical treatment), while on the other hand many terms are used as though the reader should be familiar with them already.
I found the lack of a glossary frustrating, as was Mr. Smith's habit of using concepts chapters ahead of their defintion. The difficult subject matter was further obscured by numerous errors in the figures and text (such as refering to velocity as the second integral of acceleration.)
In the end, the book did give me a good qualitative feel for the issues germane to geodesy, but I had to work very hard to extract that information and found myself immediately looking for a more perspicuous text.

An overall coverage of the history of modern geodesy

I found Mr. Smith's book to be very informative and well written. He covers many aspects of geodesy from early history to modern application. He is apparently very knowledgable and has a broad spectrum of experiences which he writes about. There are some instances when Mr. Smith tells a large amount of information, maybe more than the average reader would require. There are other times that I wished he would tell me more. He has a writing style that tends to skip around alot. Just hang in there and you will get the information in another chapter. There is always the bibliography for reference, if, Mr. Smith didn't cover it, which is rare indeed. He covers such obscure subjects such as: coriolis effect, isostasy and dynamic heights. Throughout the book all of the illustrations are simple yet understandable in almost all cases.

Good background for people interested in GIS and cartography

I bought this book to fill in knowledge gaps, not to learn geodesy as an expert. It answered lots of questions I had had about measurements, how surveys are performed, geodetic systems (datums and so on), the WGS, and the use of gravity. The details are all there, within about 100 pages in the middle of the book. Not bad at all.
This subject by its nature requires a mathematical treatment, so although the book does not go deeply into the math, it's sometimes heavy reading. Many of the illustrations deserve careful study, too. It's not light bedtime reading. I carried this book around for several days during and after a large GIS conference and periodically dipped into it. It works well in small doses.
