A Thought-Provoking Novel

Sheridyn has always wanted a good, strong man to love. She thinks she's found the man that she's looking for when she meets Sterling. Sterling is sexy and has a good head on his shoulders. Sheridyn is immediately smitten by him and thinks this is love at first sight. But does Sterling feel the same way? A one night tryst soon becomes a complicated one-sided relationship where some hard choices need to be made. Will Sheridyn and Sterling try to make love last forever or will they go their separate ways?
Rhythm Can't Keep Time is a thought-provoking debut novel by Deondriea Cantrice. This novel shows the trials and tribulations of a woman looking for Mr. Right. There's plenty of hilarious dialogue and situations that will have readers laughing out loud. Some readers will even identify with Sheridyn's situation with Sterling. Although this was a decent story, there were issues with character and storyline development that could have been cleaned up to make a better novel. Sheridyn is the main character of this book, but the reader never really get to truly know her until almost the end of the book. The story's main focus seems to be Sheridyn going to work, going out, and running behind Sterling. It would have been nice to see Sheridyn interact with her children and doing other activities towards the beginning of the book instead of at the end. There's really no real sense of time in this story since it's kind of hard to decipher how many months and years have passed when things are occurring. Sheridyn's endless torch holding for Sterling was just nauseating because you never knew what was so special about him in the first place besides his bedroom skills. Rhythm Can't Keep Time shows what can happen when a person can confuse love with lust.

Rhythm Can't Keep Time is not your ordinary romance

At first glance I was hooked. This hot cover had me intrigued about the storyline! However, the under development and characters and story have me stumped.
Rhythm Can't Keep Time is not your ordinary romance. It's full of passion, sensuality and erotic scenes that define Sheridan & Sterlings relationship. What started off as a great friendship never matured into the story book romance that Sheridan expected. It took a whole book for Sheridan to see that she was only an option for Sterling...never his priority that is until he realized that she had finally decided to let go and move on.
As I read the book, I kept asking myself when would Sheridan finally "get it". Every few Chapters was a repeat of a previous, Sheridan was asking the same people over and over again their thoughts on her relationship or lack there of with Sterling. It was evident that it was nothing more than a regular "booty" call. Sheridan wasted several years waiting for Sterling to commit to her.
The concept of the story is on point, but in my opinion the story was drug out far too long. So many females in today's society get involved with a man that will never commit and find years down the road that they have been wasting their time. At some points, it was more like a merry go round and cut and paste jobs that had no relevance. What ever happened to Lawson you know the older guy that was great and loved her so much until Uncle Pete died and Sheridan picked up her obsession with Sterling again.
So over the 10year time period that this book spans, you never really learn much about the character. Sheridan was a single mother who "never bought men around the kids" - how noble but when did she spend time with them herself? Outside of the one Carnival or fun day, there was no interaction between her and her children. Sheridan worked across town from Sterling but where and what did she do and she loved the hot steamy sex that she shared with Sterling. There was not much mention of family and friends except for the brief advice sessions she would have with them.
What I did love was the use of the poetic lines and vernacular by the author: Melodies are heartfelt and reach the soul, but every song has a timeless rhythm, Dance partners change as dances fade away because partners aren't promised, but the cadence of true love lasts forever. People can only love to the capacity at which they know, understand or experience. Love is not a scale of orgasmic screams.
I think that with more character, story development and proper editing, this book will do well

Sheridyn: chasing her tail.

Sheridyn and Sterling are two people who meet and find they have a deep attraction for each other. At first it was harmless dating and then it moved to the bedroom where they had glorious sex. Sheridyn wanted to be a permanent fixture in Sterling's life, but she was proud and wasn't about to be the one to suggest that they be exclusive. So as time flew by their relationship consists of bumping into each other at clubs and bars then going back to his place to have sex. All the while Sheridyn falls deeper for Sterling and makes herself available to his beck and call. Sterling on the other hand is pretty comfortable with the situation of having his cake and eating it whenever he wanted. But Sterling likes to play hide and seek, so when Sheridyn meets someone else, Sterling gets a wake up call! Does Sheridyn continue to let Sterling come in and out of her life like a revolving door?
Will Sterling realize what he has in Sheridyn before time runs out?
The concept of this story has relevance to today's society, where there are many women that put their lives on hold for the sake of a man. Then time runs out on the woman and they find they've wasted long years just waiting for a particular man to see it their way and settle with them.
Some men on the other hand if given the opportunity won't commit if they can get what they want and be comfortable.
As I see it the character Sheridyn wasted precious time chasing this man! And to give the author Ms Cantrice credit that's exactly how some women are! I also liked Sheridyn's style of expression, which had me smiling at some points. I also like the new cover.
But with that said, I felt the main character Sheridyn was very underdeveloped. A couple of kids, a job, a mom and a few people whom she went clubbing with were thrown in, but all where weak...meaning I never knew enough about them to really care. Sheridyn went to work but I couldn't figure out what line of work she was in or what kind of company. I found it strange how she was so in love with Sterling and it was years before he actually met her kids... but yet in between all that, she dated Lawson and he was over to see the kids after six months? The transition from one scene to the next was cut and dry and did not flow.
The story spans ten years without anything major happening except the two characters bumping into each other and having sex. I just had too many questions going through my head as I read this book. A good editor to edit and do a story overhaul should be considered.
